At Incited, we live and breathe technology. So producing the live 30-camera webcast coverage for the X PRIZE Cup in 2005 was a job we couldn't refuse! Setting up a webcast live via satellite, strapping a camera onto a rocketship for a bird's eye view, and even getting involved in providing the safetycams to the FAA was a tech-fan's dream.
The X PRIZE is a multi-million dollar award given to the first team to achieve a specific goal. The $10 million Ansari X PRIZE was awarded to the Mojave Aerospace Ventures team, led by famed aircraft designer Burt Rutan and financed by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. Their SpaceShipOne met the X PRIZE Foundation's goal of seeking a team who could bring about a radical breakthrough in the advancement of human spaceflight.
We set up shop at Las Cruces airport — a unique scenario for Incited — we're used to working from stages and sports arenas — not a small airport in the middle of New Mexico! Asked to provide everything needed for full production coverage of the event, we assembled our team and the equipment needed to create a live 30-camera switch show fed directly to Space.com via satellite. We were there for several weeks, capturing footage from the ground, from the rockets, from every possible angle — and editing five minute segments of the most exciting or interesting moments for broadcast.
